Weekly Inter County Fixtures 0126

Week Ending Sunday, January 27th 2019

The winter break is well and truly over. All The Dub Star competitions have been completed. The Leinster Pre Season competitions are gone for another year. And there’s no more time for challenge games. The Leagues are upon us, and this weekend sees Dublin’s Senior Hurling Camogie and Football panels all starting their 2019 campaigns. Are you excited? Let’s get right into the details.

And don’t forget, you can get details on all Dublin GAA fixtures by clicking here.

Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League Division 1
Kilkenny v Dublin

Saturday, January 26th. 2:00pm
John Lockes GAA, Callan. Co. Kilkenny

A new era begins for Frank Browne and his back room team as they take the helm of Dublin’s Senior Camogie panel. And what a way to start. The girls in blue will take to the road to face Kilkenny. But all the pre-season preperations have shown signs of great things to come from Dublin’s first string side and there’s new blood in the ranks. Dublin have appointed Roisin Baker as captain this year, ably assisted by Aisling Carolan. And everyone in the camp is chomping at the bit to get the League underway. They’ll be meeting Offaly, Limerick and Clare during the round phases, but won’t be looking any further than John Lockes this weekend.

Throw in is 2:00pm in Callan. This one is expected to be the perfect curtain raiser.

Allianz National Hurling League Division 1B
Dublin v Carlow

Saturday, January 26th. 7:00pm
Parnell Park, Dublin.

Fortress Parnell will host the first of Dublin’s National League games under new boss Mattie Kenny. And so far the Senior Hurlers have looked impressive. The Walsh Cup was a perfect way for the boss to get to know the players at his disposal and they put in fantastic shifts against Carlow, Offaly and Laois. Galway proved a much sterner task, but despite trailing for the most part, Dublin rallied and got back to within a point of the Tribesmen to show just how determined they are to improve on some great performances last year.

First up is Carlow, who Dublin beat in Round 1 of the Bord Na Mona competition. The score back in December was 2-21 to 1-16, and that was in Netwatch Cullen Park. This time it’s home advantage against the newly promoted side from Division 2.

Last year Dublin reached the League Quarter Finals but lost to Tipperary in Croke Park. This year their sights will be set much higher. And at 7:00pm on Saturday night it all starts again.

Allianz National Football League Division 1
Monaghan v Dublin

Sunday, January 27th. 2:00pm
St. Tiernach’s Park, Clones. Co. Monaghan

Reigning Champions Dublin go in search of their 14th League title this year, having reclaimed the trophy they’d lost to Kerry in 2017. And in the first of four road trips for fans this year, they head north to Clones. And Monaghan, who were the only team to beat Dublin in 2018, will be stern opponents once again, having finished third in the league table last year.

But all eyes will be on Dublin and the team selection made by Jim Gavin this weekend. The O’Byrne Cup came to an end last week with Dublin’s young guns losing out to Westmeath in the final. But the Dublin manager will certainly have a few players to consider from the two games and indeed the Dubs Stars challenge back in December.

Dublin travel to Kerry, Roscommon and Cavan on their other travels this season. And Dublin fans can look forward to the regular Spring Series in Croke Park, when they’ll entertain Galway, Mayo and Tyrone. And don’t forget for two of those Croke Park games you’ll have the chance to see Dublin’s Senior Ladies fight to retain their Lidl Ireland National League title against both Donegal and Mayo.

But let’s keep our eye on this Sunday. Throw in is 2:00pm in Clones. And we know there’ll be a huge crowd travelling to see it.

And that’s this weekend wrapped up. Get out and support the Dublin teams, just like you always do.
